The Big Problem.
With soilants, the big problem Dr. Augustyn and his team faced was to combine a suitable chemistry that would form a masque on the skin to which soilants such as grease, ink, oil or paint would effectively bond, along with a potent hand cleanser to remove these substances from the skin. It usually takes a fairly potent hand cleanser (often solvent based) to remove these substances. However, it is well known a large proportion of the damage done to workers hands IS NOT caused by the soilants they’re exposed to, but rather by the abrasive, pumice hand cleansers they use in an attempt to get rid of the soils and stains.Many attempts to combine a suitable cleansing agent with a bonding product for use over extended periods failed on several counts. The cleansing agents tested that were potent enough to break up or dissolve the dirt and grime caused serious damage to the test subject's skin in a relative short period of time, with the subjects’ showing symptoms of dermatitis and skin degeneration. The cleansing agents also were attacking the bonding chemistry in a very aggressive manner.When the team finally realized it would be virtually impossible to create the desired product utilizing conventional chemistry, they decided the only way to achieve their objective was to create a new chemical matrix that would repel dirt away from the skin, thus eliminating the need for harsh cleansing agents.
After experimenting with hundreds of combinations of chemicals, a significant breakthrough occurred when the team manipulated the molecular structures of selected chemicals in such a manner that created a polarity variance on the surface of the skin. This chemical matrix creates a depolarization process that pushes soils away from the skin and packs them into micropackages that are lifted and released with a simple water activation.
