Oil Sponge  is made from reclaimed cotton fibres, nut pith with hydrocarbon eating microbes. Oil Sponge absorbs oil based liquids and most chemicals, while repelling water.  Oil Sponge encapsulates and prevents leaching of contaminated liquids up to saturation point.   

Oil Sponge  passes E.P.A. Paint Filter/TCLP Testing.                       

Oil Sponge absorbs up to 8 times more liquid than "Clay" type products. Not for use on Acids.

“After discovering that Oil Sponge worked so well for eliminating oil from contaminated soil, the auto shop stocked a small supply of Oil Sponge and then realized that it also worked very well as a replacement for vermiculite to clean up most spills”. “Since Oil Sponge itself can be reused, the auto shop uses Oil Sponge almost exclusively to soak up spills inside the shop. As a result, the shop has cut its purchase of vermiculite from about 800 bags per year to less than 30 for a savings of approximately $5,000”.

US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, Construction Engineering, Research Laboratory, CERL Technical Report 99/31, March 1999. The field tests of Sorbents were conducted at the 887th Engineer Company, 326th Engineering Battalion.
The second test of the two products that appear to perform best showed that:
Oil Sponge performed better in absorbing heavier oils.
The third test included spilling a mixture of oils and water, and placing the three absorbents (XXX, Oil Sponge, and XXX) on the spill. The results show that:
  • Oil Sponge performed best among the three products.
  • Oil Sponge- Excellent for crankcase oil, minimum time and mixing. Good for aviation and transmission oil.
  • Oil Sponge- Excellent absorption, quick with no effort. Best performance.
